Could I change the format of the NodeId for a simulated variable from:
ns=index;i=integer
to
ns=index;s=string
either before or after the variable is created?
I’m using 5.* server.

since I’m new to opc-ua, I have a follow-up question: How does the server determine which format to use? Is this a function of the namespace configuration? As far as I can remember, in server 4.x, my simulated variables had nodeid of string format.
I suspect this is somewhere defined in the opc-ua specs. Please feel free to provide a pointer if the explanation can already be found somewhere else.

You are free to use any of the available formats and they can be mixed. It is up to the server application or information model to choose what to use. We chose to use numbers in Simulation Server because they are more flexible and easier to manage but we DID use strings in previous versions.
