We are evaluating the Java SDK in order to build client access to a GE Historian connected via a UA gateway. Given this type of connectivity (gateway in front of Historian) are user credentials significant for the client? That is, if the UA gateway is configured with the right user credentials to access the Historian and if the UA gateway allows anonymous access, would the client be able to access all Historian data via anonymous access?

Thanks very much for your help.

Hello,

In this setup, the client would be able to access all UA gateway data with anonymous access, which in turn means access to all Historian data that is accessible to the UA gateway.

Thanks Heikki.

I have an associated question. In applications (like the UA gateway), is user authentication normally based on the operating system? That is, do these application delegate user authentication to the operating system and require users to be users in the OS? I know that the sample server (bundled with the SDK) does its own authentication of users, but is that typical?

Thank you very much again.

Rgds,
Vijay

Usually the idea is to do the user authentication in the application and not to delegate the authentication to the operating system.
