What is the proper way of permanently terminating a UaClient? Currently, we are invoking disconnect(), but that does not seem to kill the client entirely.

Not quite sure what you mean by terminating. Disconnect closes the connection and you can then null the references to the objects to get them garbage collected.

The problem was actually something else, so it was not related to disconnect at all. Anyway, we have called “setKeepSubscriptions” to false for our client. Will this in fact remove the monitoring and subscriptions that have been created, when the client is disconnected?

Sorry for the late answer.
setKeepSubscriptions() defines that the server should keep the subscriptions when you disconnect. It can then keep monitoring and you can resume without losing any data, when you connect again.
The subscriptions will be kept in the client side, so they can be recreated or transferred to the new session automatically when you connect again.
