I don’t see the protected methods listed in the documentation for the SDK. I am currently evaluating the Java SDK, and I’m very pleased with the product, but I would like a way to find the documentation for methods I want to overload. I unzipped the documentation to my local machine, so perhaps the answer is found at your company’s site.

Thank you for your help.

Thank you,

Hi,

I assume you mean overriding instead of overloading, as that is different concept.

If a protected method is documented, it is part of the javadocs found in the ‘javadoc’ folder of the SDK distribution package.

This area is something we should improve, but in general unless one of these conditions hold, it is usually best to not override a method:

1. The method in question is mentioned in the tutorials (‘tutorial’ folder).

2. The method is overridden in the samples.

3. The method has proper documentation in the javadocs.

4. We have instructed to do so in order to solve a problem.

A lot of the SDK internals can be overridden, but in most cases there is no need to do so.

I can help more if you have a specific class/case from/for which you were planning to override methods.

Hello,

Yes, I apologize for using “overload” when I meant “override”, and I appreciate the quick response to my question. Your instructions make sense, and I will follow these guidelines as I use the SDK.

Best regards,
Doug
