I’ve been using the evaluation copy of the Java SDK for a couple of week now and have a reasonable prototype of a OPC UA client running in our system environment.
We will be primarily interested in the real-time values being served up by OPC UA Servers. Other that understanding the naming convention used in the server configuration, is there a way to identify the variables that are “real-time” values from all the other variables that are being served up?

Hello,
OPC UA defines two kinds of Variables: Data Variables and Properties. Data variables represent for example measured temperature of temperature sensor. Properties represent characteristics of a node. For example temperature might be measured in celsius or fahrenheit degrees. PropertyTypes can be distinguished because their TypeDefinition reference points to PropertyType. Rest of variables are data variables. This distinction of variables may give you some information of the type of data represented by the variable.
