Hello,

I have multiple NodeSet files, and I would like to cross reference them. I can use explicit numbers showing “name space + nodeIDs”, but I would rather use some more intuitive aliases. I tried to use Aliases, but had no success: Something like

<ReferenceType=”HasComponent” IsForward=”false”> My_Referenced_NameSpace; i=An_Alias_Within_Referenced_NameSpace

How can I achieve cross referencing via aliases?

Good question!

The specification is not clear on this, but our interpretation is that an alias is “full replace only”, i.e. only if complete text matches 100% (.equals), then it is replaced. That is what the SDK currently does.

Also the specification does state (version 1.03, Part 6, Table F.3) that for a Reference the NodeId and ReferenceType “This value can be replaced by an Alias.” The same text does not appear for other values, therefore it is a bit unclear that should it be done for other NodeIds.

It seems currently the SDK does resolve aliases for DataType Attribute and the ReferenceTypeId. Most likely because that is where the standard model uses aliases.

I recommed to use UaModeler for creating the NodeSet files, it will make your work much easier.

Also if you make a circular reference between models (e.g. A needs B and B needs A), it wont work as you would need to load the models in dependency order.

I suppose I could quote the specification for the first part of my answer,
Spec version 1.03, Part 6, F.2.:
“The Aliases are a list of string substitutions for NodeIds. Aliases can be used to make the file
more readable by allowing a string like ‘HasProperty’ in place of a numeric NodeId ( i=46).”
