Hi,
Setup: two different UA clients both connected to the UA Simulator (v5.2.2-9, prof license; on a remote Windows server).
The clients are made to restore the sessions and continue reading data after a connection loss.
When I stop and restart the simulator while the clients are connected, that all works as designed.
Except that the client sessions are not shown in the sessions tab of the simulator, nor are the connections shown in the connections log.
The client logs tell me that everything is restored long before the simulator GUI has come up, which may explain the missing information.
Wouldn’t it be better if the simulator would wait handling requests until the GUI is up?
Another problem is that I cannot see the req/resp log while those connections are remade. Of course, as I need the GUI to activate that log, I would be very lucky to be able to do that in time before the clients reconnected. Even if the simulator would wait for the GUI.
Is there a way to activate (and show) the req/resp log from the moment the simulator was started?
Thanks, Reinier

Hi,
I believe it at least used to open the UI before starting the server, but seems this has been somewhat changed and can be categorized as a bug. Thus thanks for the note.
As for the Req/Res log, there is a limitation that it wont show OpenSecureChannel requests, only starting from CreateSession. Also there is no way to start it immediately at the moment, though I believe that would be somewhat easy addition (i.e. persisting was it active when the application was shut down), thanks for the idea.
Note that if you are doing the restart due to my response at https://forum.prosysopc.com/forum/opc-ua-java-sdk/bad_toomanysessions-0x80560000/#p6142, then note that it was not intended that you do restart the simulation server related to that (but obviously this situation would then happen if you wanted to test reconnecting and see what happened). Thus I would recommend https://www.prosysopc.com/blog/opc-ua-wireshark/ if possible, as that gives a neutral view of the communication (once you enter the port to the protocols configuration there i.e. the first image in the blog post it is basically equivalent and better than what the Req/Res log view of Simulation Server is).

Hi,
I did restart the simulator mainly to see how our application reacts to the connection being lost, with and without autoReconnect. I am doing this in the same context that made me open the Topic you mention. But it seemed sufficiently unrelated so I started a new Topic.
To me it is interesting enough to see the createSession reqs. Leading up to the connect() in our application I see the SDK opening and closing two sessions, and I would have liked to see whether that happens also when reconnecting. For now the issue is not interesting enough for me to setup Wireshark.
Thanks for your support.
