Hi,

I need to test performance for OPC UA client with 16000 simulation points (each changing it’s value after 20-30 seconds) using Prosys OPC UA Server simulator.
I am able to access 1000 DataItems points which are configured in Prosys OPC UA server simulator.
How to configure additional 15000 simulation points in Prosys OPC UA simulator for performance testing of client.
If it is not possible to add 15000, what is the maximum number of simulation points that supported in Prosys OPC UA simulator.

Hi,

Thank you for a good question. In principle, you can define your own simulation variables in the “Simulation” tab of the Prosys OPC UA Simulation Server. However, practically speaking, this application and the user interface has not been designed for adding a large number of simulation signals.

The “1000 DataItems points” that you’re referring to are the nodes under “MyBigNodeManager”. Unfortunately you also cannot customize this behaviour.

At this point, it’s good to note that the Prosys OPC UA Simulation Server is a free application.

To define your own customized testing server, I would recommend downloading an evaluation version of our Java based OPC UA SDK (https://prosysopc.com/products/opc-ua-java-sdk/evaluate/) and then modifying the SampleConsoleServer example application to suit your needs.

And to continue still a little bit:

One option to define a large number of simulation variables is to edit the configuration files directly. The Prosys OPC UA Simulation Server saves its settings to a folder in path “(user.home)/.prosys/SimulationServer”.

From this folder, you can find a file “simulation.xml”. You can add simulation nodes by editing this file.

As a detail, when editing the “simulation.xml” directly, please note that you cannot use the same name parameter multiple times.

Thanks Heikki for response.

I have tried adding points in “simulation.xml” , but it supports only 100 points! It set back to maximum 100 points if more than 100 point are added.

Hi shwetak,

As a first point, is the Prosys OPC UA Simulation Server running when you’re editing the simulation.xml file?

When the software shuts down, it overwrites the configuration file. Please edit the file only when the application is not running.

P.s. At this point, it might be a good time to mention that the Simulation Server is not actively tested with 16000 simulation variables. So don’t be surprised if there’s some unexpected behavior. Please report any issues that you find here to the forum.

Hi Heikki,

I closed Prosys server, configured simulation.xml with 1000 points, and then start Prosys server. At the time of starting sever, xml gets updated and points reset to 100.

Hi,

Seems we’re not able to reproduce the same behavior.

Please send the erroneous configuration file to us at uajava-support prosysopc.com mailing list and we’ll see if the same configuration file causes trouble for us.

Hi Heikki,

Finally I am successfully able to add simulation of 16000 points using simulation.xml !!!
Thanks for your support!
Things to consider:simulation.xml should be open and do not accept any automatic update(changes) for simulation.xml file

Hi Heikki,

I have tested OPC UA Client for performance with 10,000 points configured in Prosys simulation server. Prosys simulation server is not responding after 5-10 minutes. So, is it possible to you to add new points up to 10,000 to “MyNode:DataItems”. (Right now number of in-built “MyNode:DataItems” are 1000 ). Or you can consider this performance testing feature for next release!
Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Thank you for the note.

As mentioned before, the Simulation Server is not actively tested with this kind of large amount of simulation signals and it’s possible and even expected that there might be some issues.

We’ll consider improving the handling of simulation signals in the future.

Hi,

We have a requirement of developing a pressure vessel simulator on aws cloud. Can we use Prosys OPC UA simulator for our requirement ?
Also do we have any documentation on customising Prosys OPC UA simulator for our needs ? It is very urgent and need your expertise advice here.
