I just downloaded the evaluation version of the Prosys SDK.
Initially I ran the provided Sample Console Server and used the Sample Console Client to read values/attributes from it. This seemed to have worked well.
However, then I wanted to try and read values off of a third party OPC UA Server. In this case I had the Kepware Server Ex installed, so I tried that. I used the Kepware Configuration tool to add an endpoint and then tried using the Sample Console Client to connect to it.
Using Security None, I was not able to connect to the server at all. I got a “Requested endpoint not supported by the server” error.
Initially using Security SIgn or Sign & Encrypt did not work either until I added the client in the Trusted Clients in the Kepware UA configuration.
After that using Security Sign or Sign & Encrypt got me to a Accept Certificate prompt but in both cases entering Accept (or Yes) resulted in a client crash.
I get the following console output:
…
* The Certificate is self-signed.
07/22/2014 11:56:42.935 INFO Certificate ‘1E0B2A…………………………….33188’ added to trusted certificates.

I use the following settings in the SampleConsoleClient…
E
opc.tcp://localhost:49320
s
A
The server is running and does have data available. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug in the SampleConsoleClient. Kepware is a major player in the OPC industry and thus I would think that their server would be OPC compliant.

Hi Ondrej and welcome to the forums! I moved this post to the appropiate forum, since it concerns our OPC UA Java SDK.
Can you send us an email at uajava-support@prosysopc.com so we can provide you with a version that may fix this issue?

I have used the JAVA SDK Client Tutorial to make a very minimalistic client (just for testing and learning purpose). The client connects to the server using sign security and then uses node navigation to browse the root nodes and a number of sub-nodes until it gets to a bottom most node from which it reads a value.
The code seems to work well with the minimalistic client and thus seems to indicate that the issue is with the Sample Client code.
I have sent an e-mail, as requested, to obtain the fix. However, I would suggest that you either update the download code or at least post a link to the updated code here because, I am guessing, many people may want to try the client with a Kepware server.
