It depends on whether the server is a OPC Classic (DA) or OPC UA server. In case it supports OPC UA, you can use our OPC UA Java SDK directly. If it it is an OPC Classic server, you can still write an OPC UA client application with OPC UA Java SDK. You will just need to use OPC UA Gateway to convert the OPC Classic data to OPC UA.
Unfortunately, we don’t provide a Java SDK for OPC Classic, but in my opinion, it is more worthwhile to use OPC UA for all new application development, especially on Java, which does not support DCOM (used by OPC Classic) natively.
