OPC is very new for me, so sorry in advance if I use the terminology wrong.
I’m trying to assess if the OPC UA Java SDK has all the functionality I need before letting my company buy a license.
For a customer, I need to create a Java programm to be able to do the following:
1. Connect to OPC server (Yokogawa)
2. Run through the complete list of tag OPC items
3. Retrieve the vendor specific properties for each tag OPC item (vendor specific=properties with ID>5000, see http://www.trihedral.com/vtshe…..citems.htm)
Can you confirm this is no problem with the OPC UA Java SDK? (I could not retrieve the vendor specific properties with freesource Java alternatives for the SDK, such as JEasyOPC)?
Also, when trying the evaluation SDK to connect to the “MatrikonOPC server for Simulation and Testing”, I recieve the error message:
“com.prosysopc.ua.client.ConnectException: Failed to retrieve endpoints. The server is not available: opc.tcp://127.0.0.1/Matrikon.OPC.Simulation…”
The MatrikonOPC server is running as a Windows service and I can connect to it using other SDK’s (e.g. JEasyOPC). The example code I tried:
UaClient client = new UaClient(“opc.tcp://127.0.0.1/Matrikon.OPC.Simulation”);
client.connect();

Your problem is that you are trying to access OPC DA servers using the OPC UA client. Our Java SDK only supports OPC UA so, you will need, for example the UaGateway to convert between UA and DA.
Unfortunately the current UaGateway does not support vendor specific item properties, so your first problem looks more complicated. We can discuss this with Unified Automation, though, if support for them could be added for you.

Thank you for the quick response.
We actually can’t do without the functionality to access these vendor specific items properties.
Any idea on a time frame if and when this functionality can be foreseen in de UaGateway wrapper? Is their any interaction required from my part?

Looks like it won’t be possible for the next version 1.3.0, so it would take it several months away. What is your own schedule with the feature?
The timeframe is weeks. So I’m afraid I’ll be looking for a different solution. (I was hoping to do it in Java, which is our company’s official development language)
Maybe next project…thanks thought for the quick feedback/help.
Kind regards,
