Hi all,
As for my understanding, i know that OPC UA can be used for the Internet of Things (IoT), I have developed a normal UA client with SDK provided by your company and I learnt the basic concepts of OPC UA.
Now my question is how can i develop or introduce IoT in my current UA client application?? Is it possible?
if so, i like to develop one on my own.
Regards

IoT is a large and very generic concept of connecting different devices (which have an embedded computer) to the Internet. OPC UA is a protocol that enables secure communications with these devices, if they implement an OPC UA Server in them. If they don’t have such functionality yet, you can use our SDK to develop the OPC UA Server for your devices.
With your client application, you can access computers that are running OPC UA servers.

Thanks, Jouni,
I understand what you are saying, I have few questions regarding this
1) As u said in the previous post, what If I develop a UA server, can I connect that server to IoT software like Microsoft Azure,.. etc.?
2) Can I backup my data ( i.e UA client data) which I read from UA server and store it in a cloud? This is a general question I like to do some statistical analysis on the data which I read from the server.

The cloud systems typically use a message queue protocol, such as AMQP or MQTT. For example Azure can use either one.
The good news regarding OPC UA is that there is a new specification coming up that defines AMQP as a new OPC UA transport protocol as well, and Microsoft has been contributing in this development as well. We will be providing support for this protocol in future SDK:s.
So, currently your option is to write an OPC UA Client and then define a custom AMQP or MQTT delivery – or you can even use the new UaGateway, which can also convert between OPC UA and AMQP/MQTT: https://www.unified-automation.com/news/news-details/article/1292-opc-ua-meets-iot.html

Hi Jouni,
That’s a great new! First, I would like to test with UAGateway. Hope the new SDK will release soon.
1) How long is the evaluation of UA gateway valid to use for free? (as I am a student)
2) As i already had my Client application (Should i need to do any modification in this in order to connect with Gateway?).

1) UaGateway works one hour in evaluation mode.
The license is tied to the computer name of the PC that you install it. Please, use the Product Activation dialogue to export the license request, when you know that you want to run the software permanently, to ensure that you get the license to the correct computer name.
2) Well, actually my information was a bit ahead of time: UaGateway with AMQP/MQTT is not quite yet available – Unified Automation just announced that they will provide such a version, but we still need to wait a while for it (no exact schedule available, yet, either)
So, at the moment, you will still need to go with your own solution.
